Working as a flight attendant is one of the most sought-after careers worldwide, offering numerous perks. Policies may differ, but the majority of airlines offer flight attendants and their immediate families free or discounted ticket fares. Flight attendants can frequently access reduced rates on other airlines as well. Additionally, they can expect benefits such as paid holidays and vacations, sick leave, stock options, tuition reimbursement for career-related education, retirement plans, and medical, dental, and life insurance. Furthermore, flight attendants typically enjoy between 10 to 21 days off each month.
Flight attendants are required to enforce regulations set by the FAA or Transport Canada. They must be able to access the overhead baggage compartments and lift bags that meet the maximum allowable weight. Additionally, in the event of seating disputes between passengers, it is the flight attendants' duty to resolve any conflicts.
An Air Hostess can advance to the positions of Senior Flight Attendant and eventually Head Attendant. The typical career span for an air hostess ranges from eight to ten years. After this period, she may transition to ground duties, which can include roles such as Check Hostess, air hostess training, Ground Hostess, or even management positions.
Cabin Crew Career Progression
After completing two years of service or fulfilling Flight Duty Time Limit (FDTL) requirements, the salary of an air hostess or cabin crew member typically increases. Promotions and job titles may differ across airlines, but these reflect potential career advancements. Additionally, an air hostess can boost their salary by switching to an airline that offers higher pay, as their experience makes them a valuable candidate. However, even with prior experience, airlines will provide training to ensure adherence to their specific in-flight service protocols.
Promotions are typically awarded in the following categories.
After two years of experience as flight attendant
Between three and four years after working as cabin crew
More than four years as cabin crew
On completing five years or more as cabin crew

Attend to Passenger Comfort and Safety
The primary responsibility of an air hostess is to ensure the comfort and safety of the passengers on board. Before takeoff, they review and demonstrate emergency and safety procedures, including how to use safety equipment. Additionally, they attend to passenger needs, serve food and beverages, and provide assistance to those who may feel unwell during the flight.
Assist Passengers in Deplaning
Air hostesses are responsible for guiding and assisting passengers during the descent and deplaning process. They ensure passengers are safely seated as the plane descends and that all trash and loose items are secured. After landing, they help passengers retrieve their carry-on luggage and direct them to the exits for a smooth departure from the plane.
Conduct Pre- and Post-Flight Checks
Air hostesses usually conduct a pre-flight inspection to test and verify that all safety equipment is functioning properly. After passengers disembark, they perform a post-flight check to ensure all personal belongings have been removed and that seats and trays are in their correct positions. As part of their post-flight duties, they may also assist with light cleaning of the aircraft's interior.
